What is POL

POL (ex-MATIC) is the Polygon Ecosystem Token introduced as part of the Polygon 2.0 upgrade. It serves as the native gas token for Polygon's PoS chain, the staking token for validators, and the governance token for the Polygon DAO.

POL replaces MATIC at a 1:1 ratio. The migration from MATIC to POL provides expanded utility across Polygon's growing multi-chain ecosystem, including the AggLayer which connects multiple Zero Knowledge rollup chains into a unified liquidity layer.

POL (ex-MATIC) is the native token of the Polygon 2.0 ecosystem. The official MATIC to POL migration took place on September 4, 2024, at a 1:1 conversion ratio. All MATIC holders were able to migrate their tokens to POL automatically or through a manual migration process.

The live POL price reflects trading activity across 193 markets on 123 exchanges worldwide. As of March 2026, POL trades at approximately $0.096 USD with a fully diluted market cap of over $1.02 billion.

POL has a total supply of 11 billion tokens, of which 10 billion come from the existing MATIC supply. The additional 1 billion tokens were minted as part of the Polygon 2.0 upgrade to fund the Community Treasury and ecosystem development programs.

As a staking token, POL holders can participate in securing the Polygon PoS chain by delegating to validators. Stakers earn POL rewards in return, incentivizing long-term network participation and security.
